We did it. Thanks to your advocacy and pushback from our community, the sale of the tiny homes site at Monterey and Bernal, which the county intended to turn into a jail diversion program that would have housed dangerous offenders in our community – will no longer move forward.
County officials and some politicians at City Hall at first circled the wagons and attempted to push the sale through, (or in the case of our appointed incumbent, did nothing until we put their feet to the fire) but thanks to your tireless commitment to the safety of our neighborhoods, we finally got them to do the right thing and take this project off the table.
Since this proposal was announced weeks ago, our neighbors demanded more transparency from the county. Unfortunately, we got very little of it, which is why I was so opposed to this plan from the start and I know many of you agreed.
Rest assured, on the City Council, I will be a tireless advocate for the safety of our communities – and I won’t let the county, or anyone, use our district as a future site for projects that could house dangerous individuals in our community. Our neighborhoods have already done their fair share of hosting shelters – and we should be proud of that – but it’s time for the county and other cities to step up and do their fair share too. On the City Council, I will fight every day to make sure that happens.
Thanks again for your tireless commitment to the safety of our community,
– George
